
18thC Antique Continental Carved Wood Sculpture Figure of Musician, Signed. Antique Wood Sculpture depicting a traveling bagpipe player, c. Highly skilled & expressive craftsmanship. All original surfaces with age appropriate oxidation as shown. Looking closely at the hat & coat, the detailed buttons and folds in the fabric, one can picture how much attention to detail and artistic composition went into the carving. The hands & fingernails, buttons on the shoes, his amusing face as he puffs out his cheeks while playing; are realistically carved in intricate detail. On the back is inscribed the name F. Tachau is in present day Czech Republic, Bohemia. The Plinth base is also hand carved, has character in it’s irregularity, and is original to the sculpture with original ebonized finish. As shown there are minor damages and small missing pieces, overall this estate find is a rare survivor from around 250 years ago. Measures 16″ height, 8 1/4″ width and 8 3/4 depth.
