Offered here is a genuine Aarikka Pikkupässi (“Little Ram”) sculpture, handmade in Finland and stamped with the “aarikka FINLAND” brand mark on the underside – a standout piece of Finnish design and the Scandinavian aesthetic. The Pikkupässi is built from individually turned pinewood spheres, assembled to form the ram’s rounded fleece, body, head, and legs – a hallmark of Kaija Aarikka’s instantly recognizable language of form. The horns are a pale, fine-grained hardwood (such as birch or maple), separately turned and gently curved. Kaija Aarikka introduced the Pässi ram in 1973 as a symbol of Finnish. The deeply held cultural value of resilience, persistence, and perseverance in the face of hardship. The ram, with its famously hard head and unyielding nature, embodies. The Pässi has remained one of Aarikka’s most beloved and enduring designs for over fifty years. The piece is intact, with no cracks, repairs, or missing parts. The varnish is clean and the wood grain displays beautifully. There are two small marks on the head – one near the mouth area, one near the head vertex – consistent with similar examples and characteristic of this model rather than damage. A single-owner piece, in my care since the 1970s. Its dimensions run slightly larger than current production – consistent with an early, handmade example from the design’s first years. 7 in (L) × 5 in (W) × 5.5 in (H) – approx. 18 × 13 × 14 cm. Turned pinewood body; pale hardwood horns (birch or maple). “Aarikka FINLAND” stamp branded into the underside, clearly visible in photos.
