Hand-Carved Teak Wood Sculpture with Colorful Stones – 22 Tall – 7 lbs This unique hand-carved sculpture was part of a private collection from someone who had to relocate internationally. While I don’t have extensive background information, I was told it is carved from solid teak wood and features beautiful, colorful stone inlays. The craftsmanship is detailed and striking, with bold facial features and a rich wood grain. It stands approximately 22 inches tall and weighs around 7 pounds. This is a very unique sculpture, looking like some combination of Witco style and Cubism. It is signed Cortez near the bottom of the front, but I don’t have any more info on them. It is overall 29 tall, consisting of a wood carving sitting on a twisted brass pipe that is mounted to a piece of granite. It weighs 12 lbs. 7.5 oz, with most of the weight due to the base, which is 6.5″ x 6.5″ x 2 3/8. By itself, the wood is a bit under 24″ x 3″ x 3. The wood has light wear with scratches and small chips. The base has a polished top, but the four sides are not polished, and one has a stain. It has some small and tiny chips. The wood is currently at a slight angle. It could probably be straightened by bending the twisted brass pipe. The wood is not fixed to the pipe; it just sits using gravity. It moves back and forth when tapped, so it also qualifies as a piece of kinetic art. The sculpture has a hole through it, which looks like it was part of the wood before it was carved. One of the bends of the brass pipe has a couple of cracks. One of the rubber feet is missing from the bottom.

Beautiful Vintage Olive Wood Sculpture depicting The Last Supper. Handmade and Carved in the Holy Land. We don’t know the exact age, but we do know it’s over 55 years old. This is an estate find and that is what the family could tell us. The only thing we can find on this one is, a little piece around the rim of the plate on the left appears to be missing. However, it could have been made this way. Such a lovely sculpture and very well preserved. 19 3/4″ L x 8.5″W x 6 H at the tallest point.

Beautiful vintage hand-carved African folk art sculpture, sourced from a Charleston estate. This mid-century piece is carved from a single block of wood and features a detailed village scene with two figures, a donkey, and a large palm tree canopy overhead. The carving shows the hallmark chisel work and organic shaping commonly seen in 1950s-1970s African export carvings-likely produced in a Makonde or West African carving workshop. Warm reddish-brown stain, deep tooling marks, and a smooth aged patina add character and authenticity. The underside shows tool marks consistent with hand work, and the piece has wonderful shelf presence. Vintage pre-owned condition. Natural imperfections from hand carving.
