A large vintage Japanese sculpture / statue / okimono in blackened and carved wood, depicting 1 male lion, 2 cubs and a lioness. The statue is handcrafted from a dense wood, possibly ironwood. With the original glass eyes and inset bone teeth. There is an artist mark on the base. 6 ½ in (16.5 cm) wide x 5 ½ in (14.0 cm) deep x 12 ½ in (31.8 cm) tall. Weighs 4 lbs 15.8 oz. Other than a short split in the base, the statue is in excellent condition with very little wear and no damages to the eyes or teeth. A striking and substantial Japanese okimono, rich in craftsmanship, presence, and sculptural detail-an impressive statement piece for Asian or wildlife art collector. A large and heavy early 20th Century hand carved wood squirrel mascot sculpture. Unclear what the initial purpose of this was. It does have some remnant paper attached to the tail, which could indicate a paper mâché mold, but as of today a lovely vintage sculpture, perfect for a child’s room, a retail shop, or general decor. Circa: Early 20th Century. Condition: Good and consistent with age. Dimensions: 16″ W x 9″ D x 18 H.

Vintage Early 20th Century Carved Wood Statue Madonna and Child 19 inch Possibly German Origin. Beautiful hand carved large statue from a light wood depicts the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus. Measures 19 1/2 inches height. Base is 5 1/2 inches width. Overall great condition with no restorations. Beautiful grain to the wood. One very small nick to back on lower base (lower left corner) but minimal and does not affect the presentation or beauty of this gorgeous Christian carved statue. A small spot or irregularity in the wood on back fold of gown. It does have some letters and numbers written on the base. Please view the photos. The origin of the carving is unknown but possibly German. Please take a look at many new items added daily.
