Beautiful vintage hand-carved African folk art sculpture, sourced from a Charleston estate. This mid-century piece is carved from a single block of wood and features a detailed village scene with two figures, a donkey, and a large palm tree canopy overhead. The carving shows the hallmark chisel work and organic shaping commonly seen in 1950s-1970s African export carvings-likely produced in a Makonde or West African carving workshop. Hand c arved Wooden Figure with Brass Base, mid-20th century Stylized carved wooden figure in warm-toned hardwood, mounted on a flat brass base. The sculpture depicts a nude African woman form with elongated proportions and smooth, flowing contours. The restrained modeling and polished surface reflect a modernist approach to figurative sculpture characteristic of mid-20th-century Austrian decorative arts. Up for sale is a very Rare Bust Figure of an African Women. Very Extensive Detailed Carving was involved with this Sculpture. The finish is a very Glossy, Shiny Shellac. Will be coming to you in Excellent Pre-Owned & Pre-Displayed Condition. (See Pictures) There are 3 white spots on the Sculpture, 2 on the part of the head dress extension between the bust(See Picture #9) & one at the top of the head dress, (See Picture #11) just to the left on the top of the head dress. Also on the same extension of the head dress at the bottom between the breasts a small piece (about 1-1/2 long) of the carving is missing. See Picture (#2, 3 & #9) On the Right breast nipple there is a spot that looks like te shellac is missing. (See Picture #2, 3 & #9) A little dusting isin order & I will leave that up to the new owner. Some of the shellac shows uneven coverage. Measures 15 inches in height (See Picture #2). Measures 6 inches in Width (See Picture #3). Weighting in a a hefty 5 LBS 5 ounces. Made from a Hardwood—I don`t know which one. Will be coming to you in Excellent Pre-Owned—-Pre-Displayed Condition.
