An original and rare collector’s item, perfect for enriching a cellar, a bar corner or a tavern with a decidedly scenographic touch. Carved wooden sculpture depicting a monk with habit and hood. The figure opens vertically like a book, revealing a shaped internal compartment, designed to hide a bottle of wine or liqueur. Rustic and functional design, typical of the peculiar craftsmanship of the mid-twentieth century. Made of solid solid wood, worked in such a way as to bring out the marked and warm natural grains of the material. The opening system is guaranteed by sturdy hinges and a burnished metal lateral hook. Technical Details and Conditions. Retractable bottle holder / Openable sculpture. Solid wood, small metal parts. Base: 13 x 13 cm. Very good vintage condition. The structure is solid and intact, the wood is excellently preserved with a beautiful patina of time. Closing mechanism and hinges are in perfect working order. This is a huge collection of vintage hand carved collectibles. There are bar sets, bottle stoppers, and miscellaneous other vintage wood carvings collected over 40 years. There are 17 exceptional bottle stoppers with levers and movement(2 have man & woman), one bottle stopper with a pull string that lifts it’s hat, four bottle stoppers with glasses, two Scotty dogs -one moves up and down, 8 Village people, set of three miniature musicians, extra bar set tools, large mouth toothpick holder, accordion player with movable head, head is loose, cello player on base with movable head(his hand is missing &top of the cello is chipped), a two musician bar set with bottle opener and corkscrew, a large round Bavarian holding a beer and turnips with a bottle opener head, & a man standing by a pole with working music box that plays “auld lang syne”and his head is a bottle opener. One bottle stopper has a poor spout two others are nonmoving heads. Anri club member sign. I can send more pics. The book is like new.

Spring Point Museum had many items connected with the Snow Squall and Charles R. Green that were auctioned off when the Museum closed years ago. This carving was one of the items. It stands 40″ tall and is 15″ wide at the widest spot. It weights about 32Lbs. The museum inventory tag is still on the bottom….. Kind of cryptic with Columbus Surely not the sitter for the carving. The scroll work suggests it may have been part of a railing. Carving is missing arms and cover for the cutout area in the back. (to help stop cracking). Has some sort of little holes everywhere, possibly insect or worm depending if it spent time under water or not. Missing wood here and there. Interesting piece with a mystery to solve.

A family collection of Chinese display stands, all once used by our late relatives to display their collection of items. The stands are hand carved from various different types of wood and styles. The age of the stands are difficult to judge but all early to mid 20th century, the larger brown stand and the smaller carved pair are the oldest we think? . The smaller pair are aprox 3″ across and just over 1″ tall. To hold a vase it would have to be just over 2.5 diameter. The middle sized black stand 3.4″ across and 3″ tall. To hold a vase it would have to be just over 2.5 in diameter. The Larger brown stand 5″ across and 3.5″ tall. To hold a vase it would have to be 4 in diameter.
