Vintage WITCO carved wood horse fireplace tool holder/stand, a fantastic oversized Mid-Century Modern statement piece with the unmistakable dramatic carved and dark-finished wood style associated with Witco décor. Measures approximately 47 tall. This is the fireplace tool stand/holder ONLY. Fireplace tools are not included. Features a highly stylized carved horse head with elongated body, deep carved detailing and dark brown/black finish. The exposed wood grain and sculptural design give it the classic rustic Brutalist/Tiki-influenced look Witco pieces are known for. The original metal tool-holding bracket remains attached. Vintage condition with age-related wear, scratches, finish variation, checking/cracks in the wood and areas of wear/chipping, particularly around the horse head and edges. Original True Modern Primitive Tall 50 Sculptural From the conquistador series. Conquistador Fireplace tool stand by Witco = Western International Trading Company. Became famous for its Tiki-inspired carvings, artwork and decor in the late 50’s and early 60s. Witco decor is generally made out of red cedar with dark walnut stain. Dimensions: roughly 50″ tall; approximately 8″ wide; about 7.5 deep. I do not know if the iron fireplace tools are original to the piece they came with the sculpture. Great vintage Condition: no missing pieces Excellent overall, consistent with age and use. Typical Witco Splits on the wood. Please keep in mind this is a Vintage piece and has its normal signs of wear. It has patina this is what gives it its character and confirms its age.
