This is an old item, it belonged to my great grand uncle, he was a soldier in the Korean conflict stationed in Japan. I did some research on this type of saw it is called a NOKO GIRI. This one has a wood handle, with bamboo wrapped around the base of the handle. It is has not been polished or altered in any way, it has been mine since 1996.
