Artist: Sven Gunnarsson (Sweden Workshop). Character: “Kolingen” (Famous satirical bohemian character created by artist Albert Engström). Style: High-tier Scandinavian Flat-Plane / Caricature Whittling. Material: Hand-Carved Solid Wood. Era: Mid-to-Late 20th Century. Country of Origin: Sweden. Up for sale is an exceptional and highly collectible piece of traditional Swedish folk art. This masterfully executed flat-plane wood carving is by the renowned Swedish master carver Sven Gunnarsson, depicting “Kolingen” -the legendary, witty hobo character created by famous Swedish cartoonist Albert Engström. The character design features magnificent, sharp geometric facet cuts that give life to the clothing folds and expressive facial structure. The figurine is brilliantly hand-painted with signature details, including clean white pinstriped trousers, a long formal coat tail, and Kolingen’s classic crumpled top hat. The underside features the textbook signature finish of a genuine Sven Gunnarsson premium collectible: raw, flat-sanded unpainted wood framed neatly by a thick, dark hand-painted perimeter border. While unsigned by hand, the precise execution, face design, and exact shoe-base craftsmanship guarantee its workshop authenticity. Excellent Vintage Condition: The original paint remains incredibly crisp and vibrant with excellent color saturation. Details: The white pinstriping on the trousers is perfectly intact and sharp. Structure: No chips, hairline cracks, structural splits, or past restorations. The wood edges along the facets remain beautifully clean and sharp. The raw wood soles show beautiful, natural age coloration. Please see all high-definition photos for precise details on dimensions and condition.

In the Scandinavian flat plane style. Carved in Sweden by Urban Gunnarsson. If you are interested in this type of carving, please watch my item list as I will be adding carvings over the next several months. I have collected carvings from all over Europe as well as Canada and the US. My main focus has been Scandinavian flat plane carving, though you will see from my item list that I also like any type of folk art carving. You will note that I use Trygg as a search term in my listings though the carving may not be signed “Trygg”. The Trygg family (father Carl Johan and sons Carl Olaf, Nils, and Lars) were prolific and well known carvers. However, here are many other accomplished carvers such as Lars Larsson, Sven and Urban Gunnarsson, Herman Rosell, and others (even amateurs) who may be less known to those interested in wood carved figurines. Because many people search only using Trygg, this is my attempt to help direct potential buyers to these other fine carvers. The item “Vintage Swedish Wood Carving Winston Churchill by Gunnarsson- TRYGG style” is in sale since Sunday, January 19, 2020. This item is in the category “Antiques\Decorative Arts\Woodenware\Carved Figures”. The seller is “rfalk” and is located in Madison, Wisconsin. This item can be shipped to United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Denmark, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Czech republic, Finland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Estonia, Australia, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, Slovenia, Japan, China, Sweden, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, South africa, Thailand, Belgium, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Bahamas, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, Norway, Saudi arabia, Ukraine, United arab emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Croatia, Malaysia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa rica, Dominican republic, Panama, Trinidad and tobago, Guatemala, El salvador, Honduras, Jamaica, Egypt, Sri lanka, Luxembourg, Oman, Peru, Viet nam, Uruguay, Russian federation.
