This is not just a mask-it is a presence. A bold, sculptural, deeply carved lion-form helmet mask that carries the unmistakable visual language of Central African tribal design, echoing the powerful aesthetic of Songye and Luba kifwebe traditions. The moment you see it, you understand exactly what it was meant to do: command attention, project strength, and hold space. Hand carved solid hardwood construction with exceptional weight and density. Central African-influenced design, strongly aligned with Songye/Luba kifwebe visual tradition. Full helmet-form carving-not a flat plaque-giving it true sculptural depth. Deeply incised radial striations forming a dramatic mane that wraps the entire form. Intensely expressive facial structure with compressed brow and projecting nose. Open mouth with suspended fang elements creating striking dimensional tension. Rich, layered patina with tonal variation from dark espresso to warm bronze highlights. Surface shows confident, deliberate tool work throughout-no softness, no loss of detail. Interior fully hand-carved, confirming authentic artisan construction. A rare combination of tribal form and modern sculptural presence. Height: 12 inches. Width: 11 inches. Depth: 6.5 inches. Outstanding overall condition. No cracks, splits, chips, or repairs. Wood is solid, stable, and beautifully preserved. Surface patina is even, rich, and visually dynamic. Ready for immediate display. A commanding statement piece with true gallery-level presence. Strong crossover appeal-African tribal, brutalist, primitive modern, and high-design interiors. The depth and carving create exceptional light and shadow interplay when displayed. This is the kind of object that anchors a room-it does not blend in. Increasingly sought-after category as collectors recognize the power of Central African forms. A serious decorative object that reads as both tribal and sculptural art.
