The tradition of carving ironwood (Olneya tesota, or palo fierro) began with the Seri people, particularly in the mid-20th century when they began carving sculptures. The carvings are made from the dense wood of the ironwood tree, native to the Sonoran Desert. Significance: Ironwood carving has become an important economic activity and a significant aspect of the Seri culture. Characteristics: Seri ironwood carvings often depict animals found in their environment, such as marine life and desert animals. MASSIVE WOOD FISH FLY FISHING LODGE CABIN TROUT SALMON SIGN SCULPTURE FOLK ART! YouTube video of the fish to show the scale. THICK and MASSIVE and HEAVY!! THIS IS A WORLD RECORD CATCH!! This is an enormous one of a kind custom crafted solid wood carved fish. Most likely this was carved in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s and is made of thick heavy plank wood possibly reclaimed from an old schooner. The piece was acquired from a wealthy estate overlooking the Mystic River in CT. The fish resembles a salmon or a rainbow trout. AMAZING one of a kind showpiece, it could be the focal point of your home, restaurant, or business. It is extremely heavy and has heavy duty ropes strung through to hang from a ceiling. I would estimate this piece weighs around 250 pounds. The fish will need a few touch ups here and there. It would make an excellent addition to any collection. Vintage 1970s Massive Leather TIGER Sculpture & Cub Kids Playroom Toy Accessory. Absolutely awesome vintage find! Not one, but two wooden, leather wrapped Tiger statues/sculptures. The adult is huge at four feet long. Top of shoulders measures 28″ high and the girth around the widest part of her belly is 41.5″. This sculpture is very strong. The cub is nearly 27″ from nose to tip of tail and is labeled “Made in India. I’m assuming the adult was as well. There are signs of light wear (light scratch marks from use and play).
