This large one of a kind newel post top, is from the distant past and an unknown high end property. Carved finely out of solid wood, an architectural feature that just won’t be made today. You will be hard pressed to fine another one anything like this one. It can be reintegrated into the architecture of your home or displayed as a fine work of art. Measures approximately: 22 1/2″ tall x 12″ deep x 7 1/2 wide. Nice antique condition with some small damage to back of helmet and back tip of plume, which does not take away from this one of a kind item’s displayability. There are several chip damages on the edges, near the base, and the carving itself. Some fine hairline cracks, and surface peels. Some scratches and color wears on surface. There is a piece of wood (not original) attached to the base. The base is not even and will wobble if placed on flat surface. Underneath the base wood, there are uneven carvings. This sculpture is heavy. Some discolorations and residue between the grooves. This sculpture was well carved, with good definitions. The lion’s expression has a faint “worried” or “concerned” look. Circa: 20th century, origin possibly from Europe. The base is rectangle, and is not squared. Height: a little under 26″ inches Base (LxW): 5-1/4″ x 15-1/4 inches.
