This large one of a kind newel post top, is from the distant past and an unknown high end property. Carved finely out of solid wood, an architectural feature that just won’t be made today. You will be hard pressed to fine another one anything like this one. It can be reintegrated into the architecture of your home or displayed as a fine work of art. Measures approximately: 22 1/2″ tall x 12″ deep x 7 1/2 wide. Nice antique condition with some small damage to back of helmet and back tip of plume, which does not take away from this one of a kind item’s displayability. [FOUND ON THE SOUTH SHORE OF MASSACHUSETTS]. Mid-20th c vintage romanticized depictions of Polynesian (Tiki) tribal culture & hand carved & hand painted wooden totems. Pole overall height: 55 12 Height. Pole width: 4 12 Width. Base measurements: 10 12″ Width x 7 12″ Depth. Recently discovered on the South Shore of MA, south of Boston, near the entrance to Cape Cod is this incredible, hand carved & hand painted Victorian turned wooden porch post turned into a mid-20th c Polynesian romanticized figurative totem, with four (4) faces carved into the wooden porch post, featuring attached horns (ears) & nose. The paint on the front, most important bas-relief carved face is hand painted, w/striking, vibrant colors while the remaining three (3) carved faces were left unpainted. W/tremendous presence for your next Tiki pool party or for display in your home. Untouched & undisturbed not even dusted off. The end of the attached wooden nose has some minor material loss at the very end of it. One of the ears also has some minor material loss from what presumably was a previous fall. There are several chip damages on the edges, near the base, and the carving itself. Some fine hairline cracks, and surface peels. Some scratches and color wears on surface. There is a piece of wood (not original) attached to the base. The base is not even and will wobble if placed on flat surface. Underneath the base wood, there are uneven carvings. This sculpture is heavy. Some discolorations and residue between the grooves. This sculpture was well carved, with good definitions. The lion’s expression has a faint “worried” or “concerned” look. Circa: 20th century, origin possibly from Europe. The base is rectangle, and is not squared. Height: a little under 26″ inches Base (LxW): 5-1/4″ x 15-1/4 inches.
