Hand-carved folk art sculpture of a pair of oxen harnessed together in a neck yoke. Sutton and dated 1973 to the underside. One of the horns looks to have been repaired after breaking off. The lighter colored ox is missing some hair at the end of it’s tail. Beyond that, the condition is good. Dimensions: 15″ length x 8″ height x 10.5 width. Since this is a fragile item, I ask that you use the original box and original packing materials to ensure safe return.

OBJECT SIZE 19 HIGH. ISAAC SMITH WAS A WELL-KNOWN DALLAS FOLK ARTIST WHO PRODUCED HAND CARVED WOODEN ANIMALS AND INSECTS AT HIS HOME STUDIO IN OAK CLIFF. THE FIGURE HAS SOME AGE RELATED DAMAGE. Smith was by far the No. 1 folk artist in the country, according to Ronald Gard, an art collector who served on the International Advisory Council of the Museum of American Folk. The Oak Cliff native carved thousands of wooden animals in his lifetime, according to Gard, who wrote a book about Smith. Former President George W. Bush bought a raccoon and reindeer from the artist. Other pieces found a home at the Dallas Museum of Art, and today many live in the Craighead Green Gallery in Stemmons Corridor. This fierce feline is captured mid-prowl with an open roaring mouth, detailed textured fur, and inlaid eyes/teeth for added realism. This marvelous early 19th century Siam /Thailand Teppanom Guardian Angel. Sculpture is a historic find! Completely original, it’s one of a handful of surviving. Early 19th century Siam polychromed wood sculptures. Teppanom (Thepphanom) deities appeared when the Buddha reached enlightenment. They were the guardians of Temples, important religious objects and scrolls. As Buddhism spread, more Teppanom descended to protect villages and homes. This rare Teppanom Goddess is in a standing pose and was clearly sculpted to be hung flat. Against a flat surface such as a wall. It is a household Guardian Goddess. Some works of art develop a certain’presence’. We have handled very many and. Can discernthis “x-factor” in a piece. Whether it was the love of it’s owners or the.
