Hand-carved and painted bear head plaque by American folk artist Craig Carey. This is an original piece with his signature “Carey” on the bottom edge. Carey was a self-taught artist whose work was carried by Neiman Marcus in the’80s and’90s and featured in magazines like Better Homes and Gardens. His pieces have a distinctive, playful neo-folk look that collectors seek out. Condition is solid – original paint with normal light wear for its age, no major damage or repairs.

Vintage 1990s studio craft sculpture signed “Hirsch Brothers’95” on the underside. Abstract facial composition built from layered hardwoods in geometric relief. The face is constructed on a quarter-sawn oak panel with sapele (or mahogany) brows, a central nose in lacewood and walnut, and a segmented mouth using the same woods. Cubist in structure, with angular and block-formed features. Freestanding and mounted on an oak support and base. Good condition with a small chunk missing from the corner eyebrow, which is mostly obscured by the main ridge. Dimensions: 17.75″ H – 10.75″ x 7.5 (base).

Signed Manuel on the bottom of the piece. Appears to be in good shape. The piece measures approx 8h x 5w x 4d inches. A very nice addition to any collection or decor as seen. This is a rather large carving. It was well kept. It comes from a smoke-free home. I don’t see any flaws to be perfectly blunt. There’s no major dents or anything like that. Obviously, this is a well-known artist. It’s just a beautiful piece. I guess if you have to say a father, there’s a crack in the wood in the back. However, I’m pretty sure that’s the way it was made. It’s pretty hard to get Wood to Splitting and cracking a little bit. It signed and dated on the bottom. Please note this is a large version of 32 inches tall. Most of the statues you see for sale or 6 to 8 inches.

Very unique folk art wood carving of old Swedish couple. Man carries a valise which is signed on bottom by carver, Axel M. Peterson, of Geneva, Il. In his other hand he’s holding some kind of club or stick……. Maybe a walking stick, but apparently the bottom half was broken off at some point. The old lady has lost her nose, which gives her an interesting look. Both figures are about 7 tall, and display the bright colors of old world traditional Swedish dress. Both man and women show wear, and slight breakage (as mentioned, and pictured), but they are a wonderful example of vintage folk art wood carving.
