This is an extremely rare vintage ANRI “Kellermeister” wall carving, extremely hard to find, so much that I haven’t found even one that is of this era. Later ones are nowhere near as subtly colored and as perfectly detailed as this. Kellermeister of course translates directly to “cellarmaster” , the implication being winemaking, from the glass shape, but also to “Butler”, although he is not dressed as a butler. The image measures 11-1/4″ x 5-1/4″; the outer dimensions of the frame are 17-1/4″ x 11-1/4″. The frame condition shows age, but the work itself is untouched except for one tiny, tiny area of flaking on the winemaker’s apron (see image).
