This stunning piece of European folk art showcases the incredible skill of Italian master woodcarvers and makes a premier addition to any serious ANRI collection. Brand / Maker: ANRI. Origin: Val Gardena, South Tyrol, Italy. Subject: Dancing Folk Couple. Base Dimensions: 7 inches x 4 inches. Weight: 1 lb 7 oz. This carving is in excellent vintage condition. It is completely free of any chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs. The hand-painted detailing remains vibrant, and the wood retains its beautiful original luster. The underside of the base retains both of its original gold foil authentication labels. “Trade Mark ANRI Made in Italy” gold tag. “South Tyrolean Art Handcarved Wood” gold tag. ## History of ANRI & Age of the Piece. Founded by Alois Riffeser in 1912 in the Val Gardena region of the Italian Alps (South Tyrol), the ANRI workshop became world-renowned for producing the finest hand-carved wooden sculptures. They employed master carvers who used traditional, centuries-old chiseled techniques, leaving behind distinctive “faceted” tool marks that give each piece unique texture and character. Based on the specific design style, subject matter, and the style of the dual gold foil labels, this particular dancing couple piece dates back to the mid-century period, likely the 1960s to 1970s. During this era, ANRI heavily celebrated Alpine folk culture, creating larger, highly detailed 10-inch showcase pieces like this.
