Pussy Willow Metal Art on Wood Base. In good vintage condition. Some discoloration of the metal noted and one small nick on the wooden base. See photos for details. For sale is a metal art sculpture of a pussy willow plant attached to a wooden base. Possibly made by American sculptor William Wessel (we cannot confirm this). The Crèche is designed to display the classic Nativity collection. While simple in architectural detail, the Crèche has meaning built into its very design. The piece has a regal, stately appearance, yet is constructed from humble materials of barn wood and nails. The structures proportions also suggest the size and shape of the cross, while its rusty nails foretell the crucifixion. The Crèche intimately shelters the Holy Family, then opens wide to welcome shepherds and travelers from afar. 17h x 20w x 11.5d. Constructed of wood and painted by hand. Three-piece assembly; folds flat for storage. Antiqued blue-gray wood backdrop and base. Center vertical portion has cross beams and rusted nail marks. Larger and smaller base fit together for tiered display. Size and scale complements the Nativity collection. Packaging box includes enclosure card for gift-giving. Dust with soft cloth or soft brush. Avoid water or cleaning solvents. Willow Tree sculptural art forms beautifully express love, closeness, healing, courage, hope all the emotions of a life well lived. Artist Susan Lordi hand carves the original of each figure from her studio in Kansas City Missouri. Pieces are cast from her original carvings, and individually painted by hand. Expression is revealed through gestures only a tilt of the head, placement of the hands, a turn of the body. The simplicity of form and absence of facial features signify Willow Tree. It is Susans hope that these pieces be meaningful to both giver and receiver. Susan Lordi’s artistic process is rather intuitive; she “sketches” in clay as she conceives, sculpts and carves each piece, always with a focus on gesture that speaks to the universal. By stripping down the essence of emotion to pure form, she opens the interpretation of each piece to the giver and the receiver.
