The Anima Sola is a departed soul awaiting judgement in the flames of purgatory and statues representing people this state became popular and objects of cult worship in Catholic Mexico during the 19th century and earlier. The Anima Sola is thought of when a family member or loved one dies in sin. It is also thought of to send an enemy to a state of temporary suffering in purgatory. Mostly excellent condition with tiny chip on right index finger. Verify with pictures, unpainted. This sculpture is quite expressive and depicts a woman surrounded by flames on wood base. Flames can be removed and re-arranged VERY nice detailed hand carved, glass eyes, wood is not really heavy, I’m not expert don’t know what kind of wood it is. Please verify with pictures.
