BEST Vtg Taxco Signed Sterling Wood Cufflinks SOAR MCM Mexico Sculpture to Wear. Expertly combining the elements of sterling silver and wood, these sculptural signed vintage Mexican cufflinks are truly Sensational. The complex angles and planes were carefully conceived and skillfully executed to make these links soar. The sterling base of the faces is slightly curved to begin with and the block of wood is set thereon so it is framed in silver on the two long sides and the short sides are open. The beautifully finished wood is scooped out and comes to a sloping point running diagonally along the top, creating more angles in the process. Running along the diagonal ridge is an inlaid vertical piece of silver that emphasizes the angles and echoes the straight silver bands at the sides, a brilliant design decision that really pulls the elements together and elevates the looks of the links to nothing short of Spectacular. They are so much better looking than they appear in the poor photos! They will look awesome on your cuffs – from every conceivable angle. Dating from around the middle of the last century, the faces measure about 13/16″ by 9/16″ by just under 3/8 thick or deep. They are very well made and extremely 3-Dimensional – so Sculptural. They are signed “Taxco Mexico 925″ in a circle around three letters, the initials of the artist, but the signature was double stamped and is very hard to read, especially to identify the maker. Whoever the artist was, the success of the design and execution on display in these cufflinks attests to his artistry and skill and he is undeniably a silver smith of the highest order. They are in Very Good / Excellent vintage condition, with expected dirt, scratches and tarnish. The wood is rosewood and probably Brazilian, because of the grain and the dark brownish tint it has in the light. It looks fantastic with the silver. This handsome pair of vintage sterling and wood cuff links will enhance your collection – and look fabulous on your cuffs.
