This early sculpture from the now legendary brothers-in-law, Curtis Jere, was born in 1966 and is a perfect representation of the Modernist / Brutalist Art Movement. Unrefined lines, industrial materials and metals, bold imagery and a bit of folk flair bring this sexy, scrappy snail to life. Measuring (with wood block base) 13 tall x 10 ½ long and 5 wide. Weight – 4 pounds, 6.5 ounces. The base is a solid dark wood block base (kind of wood, unknown) and the snail and plant are with made with copper and brass (and others perhaps) Age has provided gorgeous patina along the edges of the leaves and the snail shell. Bought at Gumps San Francisco almost 50 years ago. A small brass plaque on the top right front corner of the base reads C. One of the great features of this friendly sculpture is how tactile and bendable it its- strong too. Leaves and snails antennas are can be manipulated and altered (gently). This guy lived in my familys den for all my childhood and endured almost as much play as my Star Wars X-Wing fighter. CONDITION is near mint. The wood base has a few tiny scratches which a hardly noticeable. The sculpture remains totally in tact and complete (no missing bits or pieces) just as it looked at its completion. In its 54 years it had developed a wonderful patina on the brass and copper. Please contact me with questions or concerns. Vintage BRUTALIST Snail SCULPTURE by C.
