Description: 12/47/ 12/13/ book # 477. Vintage Artisan Minimalist Abstract Carved Wood Mother and Child floor Sculpture, 41Inches tall. Carved and polished to a black sheen. A beautiful quality piece of art hand sculpted. This is a tall impressive sculpture of a woman and child, done from one piece of wood with a wood and metal base attached to the bottom. The metal part of the base consists of 3 brass bars. You can see the modern way the sculptor styles and blends her and the child as one. The mother bending and reaching to lift the child up. The statue is 41″ tall x 9″ wide and 6 Deep. Unpacked weights 6 pounds. There is no artist signature on the piece so unsure of the maker or country of origin. Vintage from the 1970s. Made of Wood and Solid Brass Bars on the bottom. Great pre-owned used condition, no breaks or repairs, there are nicks, scuffs, all appropriate wear for its age. This is a spectacular work of art, but I can’t figure out who made it. It’s signed RP on the bottom of the wood carving. By itself, the wood is about 14.5″ x 6.75″ x 7, weighing 14 lbs. It’s carved in a cubist style, showing a mother with her child. It’s carved out of a heavier wood, and has a lot of hairline cracks from the wood aging. The sculpture sits on an 8″ x 8.5″ x. 75 travertine marble base that weighs 5 lbs. With a cut-out piece of felt on top for the wood to sit on. The travertine has a small chip on the top corner, and two small chips on the bottom corners.

Truly beautiful hand carved sculpture by French artist Dan Karner. This abstract Madonna and Child seems to glow and is probably carved from burl wood. Dan Karner was a French artist in the 1930s who then fled France to Spain in the 1940s. SIZE: The statue is 11.5 tall. CONDITION: There are no chips or cracks or nicks.
