Extraordinary vintage African Makonde Shetani wood sculpture featuring an exceptionally intricate, hand-carved composition of intertwined human and animal-like spirit figures. This remarkable piece demonstrates outstanding craftsmanship, with extremely delicate openwork carving, elongated limbs, expressive faces, and elaborate details throughout. One of the most impressive features is the construction of the sculpture from a single solid piece of wood, including the intricate figures and freely moving carved wooden earrings. The suspended wooden earrings were carved directly from the original wood rather than separately manufactured and attached, demonstrating an extraordinary level of precision and craftsmanship. The sculpture features a fascinating three-dimensional composition that reveals different figures and details when viewed from multiple angles. The warm natural wood tones, beautiful grain patterns, and aged surface give this piece exceptional visual character. Traditional African Makonde Shetani-style sculpture. Intricate hand-carved wooden artwork. Carved from a single piece of wood. Elaborate three-dimensional openwork design. Multiple intertwined human and spirit figures. Extremely delicate and detailed carving. Freely moving carved wooden earrings. Beautiful natural wood grain and aged patina. Unique and highly decorative collectible artwork. Good vintage condition with natural age-related wear and surface imperfections. There appear to be one or two areas of previous restoration or repair. These areas are carefully blended with the surrounding wood and are not immediately noticeable during normal display. The age and circumstances of the repairs are unknown. Due to the exceptionally delicate construction, this sculpture should be handled with great care. Please carefully examine all photographs for the exact condition, details, and measurements. A remarkable example of African wood carving craftsmanship and an outstanding addition to a collection of Makonde art, traditional African sculptures, or unique handcrafted artwork.

Up for your consideration is this SPECTACULAR vintage Shetani Makonde sculpture! It is hand carved out of a single large piece of ebony, and has a very bizarre form of a stylized and abstracted figure. It has a grotesquely twisted face with pendulous and textured breasts for eyes. The elements of Surrealism and Cubism are ever-present in this piece. It stands 15″ tall, by 5″ wide, and 3 deep, and is in EXCELLENT vintage condition. There are some repairs to the wood that appear to have been made by the artist at the time of the initial sculpting. These are visible in the pictures. This is a SUPERB and top notch example of Makonde sculpture! Please feel free to ask any questions you might have, and be sure to check out my other GREAT items! This is a nice vintage wood carving statue art sculpture (see photos). The carved sculpture is vintage from a collection that I will be offering for sale on line. The carving is made of hand carved wood (see my other listings for more carved items). The carving is not signed by the artist. I would guess the carving to be African in origin (possibly Makonde Shetani), but I do not know the country it is from or who the artist is (see photos and decide the maker, the origin and the age). The carving has been done in a funky abstract style that would work well in a Mid Century Modern Modernist decor (see photos). The item in total measures about 1 foot 10 and 1/2 inches high and it is about 5 inches wide. The carving has some scuffs, some splits to the wood and some wear (see photos and / or written description for the condition of this item). This item would be a nice addition to your collection.
