This is a nice vintage 1977 Sterett Gittings Kelsey signed bronze golfer statue on a wood base. It has an applied plaque that says Royal Copenhagen sculptor and is numbered 332/2500. It also has an applied plaque American Seniors Golf Association. In pretty good condition as the pics show with some surface wear and it comes exactly as shown. The base only has 1 screw in it so there is some movement to the bronze. It measures 6 1/2″ in diameter at the base and is 10 3/4″. Sterett-Gittings Kelsey was born in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1941, and was graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a B. In Sculpture in 1964. In 2001, Kelsey received a commission for “Attitude-Croisse, ” number 2 of 6, for Seward Johnson’s Grounds for Sculpture summer exhibition in New Jersey. The work will be in that location for a year, June 2001 through June 2002. The Kelsey bronzes are handmade from start to finish. This transformation from the clay original into a bronze masterpiece is a long, exacting process. A new ceramic mold is made for each registered bronze. This handmade mold is used only once, and then destroyed. There are forty steps which each work passes through on the way to becoming a completed work of art.
