Wipe Out! MCM Abstract Surfing Wave Sculpture! Vtg Orig. Art 70’s Wood Surfboard
” CATCH THE WAVE ” ABSTRACT SCULPTURE. 14″ Tall By 28″ Wide SURF CULTURE Surfing and surfers became a part of pop culture in the late fifties and early sixties. Many surfers have an intimate relationship with nature and a special appreciation for the wave. All of the natural world is made of atoms, which are made of particles and all particles are made up of waves So all of infinity is really just a sea of wave forms. This sculpture “Catch The Wave” captures the mid century surfer ethos perfectly and it is hard to imagine the artist not being aware and a part of the surf culture of this period. This powerful and imposing abstract sculpture is hard to ignore. The artist’s use of both concept & material are constantly appealing to the eye. The work has both visual weight and biomorphic qualities which create a great feast of contrasts! The wood is wonderful and has a knot that perfectly adds to the wave motion of the grain! In the second half of the twentieth century, a great appreciation of sculpture and modern art manifested in the upper echelons of society. It was a wonderful time to be alive and be a part of this rediscovering of art and pushing past convention. Artists and their patrons found new freedom in abstract forms – which reflected the journey of the mind. In excellent vintage condition.
