Wow! 19th Century Black India Elephant Wood Sculpture! Vtg Fine Asian Art
FINE ART ELEPHANT SCULPTURE 19TH CENTURY ARTIFACT. Beautiful Wear & Age Markings! (DIMENSIONS: 6″ wide by 5.5″ tall by 3 deep). This gorgeous Indian Elephant Sculpture has had a very fascinating life and traveled much farther more than most elephants do! Sculpted in the mid-nineteenth century this Indian Elephant was brought back to England during the time of British occupation of India. Most people have heard of Rudyard Kipling, the author and his thrilling adventure tales of India, far fewer know that Rudyard Kipling’s father, Lockwood, started the trend of sending Indian sculptures back to England! The finest Indian works were displayed in museums and brought the first serious “cultural appreciation” to native Indian artifacts. Other families soon did the same and a number of wonderful pieces were brought home after service or working during Crown rule in India. Very fine vintage condition! Appropriate age wear throughout. Now, after 150 years, it is offered to collectors for the first time! A simply marvelous piece deserving a prominent spot in your Fine Asian Art Collection! A Marvelous Artwork For Your Discerning Collection!
