Puerto Rico Art vintage wood carving Gov. Luis Munoz Marin by Jose Negron
This wood carving of Gov. Luis Munoz Marin is in excellent condition. No damage to wood. Paint is strong and even. Desk and base stand are lightly varnished. It’s believed that the carving (talla de madera) was made in 1984. He’s considered the architect of the island’s Commonwealth status. His name is on the bottom (See photo). In 1946, he moved to Brooklyn, N. Neftale also became a Santero (carver of wooden saints) like his father. His works are in collections at the Ponce Art Museum and the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (ICP).
