Offered for sale is an Incredible Hand Carved Northern Lapwing by well-known wildlife carver Mike Wood of England. He has specialized in carving wood animals and birds for the past 30 years and has authored carving plans in multiple carving magazines. This piece has extremely detailed wood burning throughout. Even the underside of the tail is wood burned. The Lapwing is life-size with no repairs or breaks. Mike carved each of the crest feathers separately and inserted into the crown. The glass eyes are beautiful and appear almost real, and the legs are metal. The base is all wood as well with burl wood placed on top of carved green lichen. The painting is outstanding and blended to perfection. Most importantly, the proportions and posture are all correct – something carvers often get wrong. The carving stands about 12 inches tall including the crown feathers. From front to back, the entire carving is approximately 10 inches in length. The maker wood burned his characteristic oak leaf, the initials “MW”, and a feather along with “DEC 2006″ and “LAPWING” to the underside of the base. The iridescence to the paint, turned head, and lichen base along with many hours of wood burning make this a special carving.
