Up for sale here is a vintage or antique circa 1930s to maybe as late as the 1950s carved wood and hand painted Coot Decoy. The decoy is made of solid wood and was a working decoy that was used in the field. The decoy measures about 11 1/2 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide by 6 inches high. The piece has metal tack eyes that are just slightly starting to rust. The decoy has one of the previous owners name or club initials painted on the bottom of the decoy. As for condition it is rough. The piece has its original paint. There is a crack line that runs half way around the neck but the neck has not been broken off or repaired. The piece is extremely dirty. There is a light yellow or brownish dusty dirt coating that is a bit sticky to the touch. There is no odor to the decoy. The major defect is the scraped wood on the one side with the missing paint. There is an older pull still in the bottom of the piece that we would recommend removing if you are going to display the decoy on a flat surface. This piece originally came from the Central Illinois area but we don’t see any specific artisan’s name on the decoy.
