Wonderful Mexican folk art wall sculpture featuring the characteristic exaggerated chubby-cheeked angel face, carved dimensional features, dark hair and dramatically spread wings decorated with colorful hand-painted feather/scallop motifs. These distinctive winged angel figures are commonly known as cachetones (“chubby-cheeked”) and are associated with the folk-art traditions of Guerrero, Mexico. Similar examples are also described as angelitos or winged cherub masks/sculptures. The handmade character is fantastic-expressive glassy-looking eyes, wonderfully strange proportions, visible carving and an aged painted surface that gives him exactly the presence you want from Mexican folk art. Designed for wall display; hanging hardware/opening is present on the reverse as shown. Condition: Good overall vintage condition with age-related surface wear and minor cracking that does not extend completely through the piece.
