Signed wood carved Baltimore Oriole by Peter Peltz. I came to own this one and discovered once home with it, that it has damage. The back end of the tail has been broken off and is split the length of the tail and was repaired. I dont know what was used to make the repair.. The original artist died in 2001 at age 86. He began carving while he served in the NAVY. His work has been up at auctions regularly. And graduated from Yale University. In 1938, later returning to Yale to earn a Master of Arts. During his time at the university, Peltz was a member of the Whiffenpoofs. Peltz served in the US Navy. During World War II. In both the Mediterranean. Rising to the rank of lieutenant. It was during his time in the Navy that he carved his first bird. After leaving the Navy, Peltz married and had two children. In 1952, Peltz and his family moved to East Sandwich. In 1958 Peltz had a barn moved from Falmouth, Massachusetts.
